Follow these helpful tips to create a stronger password.
What to keep in mind
Do not use a password that is easy to guess
A password based on a name, birthday, Social Security number, or similar information is not safe. Any use or combination of personally identifiable information is not safe.
Avoid common words
Criminals have programs that guess passwords based on common words, including words spelled backwards, incorrectly, and with symbols instead of letters (e.g., p@ssword).
Longer is better
Use a password that has at least eight characters and up to 128 characters.
Use the entire keyboard
Use numbers, letters (upper and lowercase), and symbols for a one-of-a-kind, safe password.
Make sure you can reset your password
Regularly check that your mobile phone number and/or personal (non-Comcast) email address are up to date and verified.
Use passphrases for stronger passwords
A passphrase is a group of words or letters put together to make a long password. Passphrases are safer because they are longer and easier to remember than short passwords.
- Use random words, numbers, and symbols: A mix of random words works best.
e.g. “Coffee-window-planet-orange!” or “Golden_apples_hopped_4_times!” - Make it personal, but not obvious: A phrase about yourself can help as long as others would not guess it.
- The longer the passphrase, the better. But you can also shorten your passphrase by taking the first letter of each word and mixing in numbers and symbols to create a strong password.
e.g. “My_favorite_ride_at_Universal_was_Jurassic_World_VelociCoaster” or shortened “Mfr@UwJWVC” - Avoid common phrases: Do not use song lyrics, movie quotes, famous sayings, or popular expressions,
e.g. “Iloveyou” or “Open_sesame.”
Use a password manager to stay safe
A password manager is a trusted app that stores all your passwords securely in one place. Do not store passwords in notes, documents, or unprotected applications on your phone or computer. If you decide to sign up for a password management service, make sure to do your research. Ensure that your account password is extremely strong and that you always sign out when finished.
