How does video resolution affect my data usage?

Depending on your mobile plan, Xfinity Mobile customers can stream videos on our cellular network in:

  • SD resolution (480p).
  • HD Resolution (720p).
  • HD resolution (4K).

Because high-definition (HD) resolution uses data more quickly, we provide options for you to adjust your video streaming resolution to fit your needs. You can find information about streaming video resolution on our latest price plan below. You can upgrade to our latest price plan in the Xfinity app, by using your account tools online, or by calling or chatting with us.

  • Includes HD (720p) resolution while you're streaming on cellular data.
    • Note: SD resolution reduces your data use — turn on Data Saver in your Xfinity Mobile account online or through the Xfinity app.
Mobile Plus and Premium Unlimited
  • Includes Ultra HD 4K video resolution, but the default setting for these lines is standard-definition (SD) resolution.
    • To stream HD video, turn it on through:
      • The Xfinity app.
      • xfinitymobile.com.

Mobile Select and Unlimited Premium
  • Includes Ultra HD (720p) video resolution, but the default setting for these lines is standard-definition (SD) resolution.

  • Includes SD resolution.

Note: Customers with HD streaming included in their mobile plans must turn on the feature using the Xfinity app or xfinitymobile.com.

How do I turn HD streaming on and off?
If you have HD streaming included in your plan, you'll need to turn the feature on using the Xfinity app or xfinitymobile.com.

Turn on or off using xfinitymobile.com:

  1. Sign in to your Xfinity Mobile account online using the Primary or Manager’s Xfinity ID and password.
  2. From the Activity page, select the line you want to update.
  3. Select Switch to 4K (HD) or Switch to 480p (SD).

Turn on or off using the Xfinity app:

  1. Download or open the Xfinity app.
  2. Sign in to your account using the Primary or Manager’s Xfinity ID and password.
  3. From the Services tab, select Mobile lines and data usage located within the Mobile services card.
  4. Select the phone line that you’d like to switch video quality.
  5. Under the Plan Features section, select Change Video resolution and follow the prompts to update your video resolution.
    • You may be required to sign in again.
