Xfinity CyberSecure, formerly Advanced Security, provides built-in security for every connected device the moment you connect to the gateway. Always working and evolving in the background to block threats before they get in, like locking the digital door to your devices.
CyberSecure sends proactive alerts when online threats and malware are detected, so you’re always in the know for your network and devices. CyberSecure is included with Xfinity Shield for Xfinity WiFi customers who lease an eligible Xfinity Gateway.
Note for customers with Apple devices: If you have Apple's iCloud Private Relay feature turned on, Xfinity CyberSecure may not work as expected. Learn more about iCloud Private Relay.
Xfinity CyberSecure FAQs
What is Xfinity CyberSecure?
Xfinity CyberSecure is the new name for Advanced Security. It helps keep you safe online, monitors connected devices for unusual activity, alerts you when a security risk is detected, and suggests steps to better protect your home network.
How do I access Xfinity CyberSecure features?
Xfinity CyberSecure is available to Xfinity Internet subscribers who rent a compatible Xfinity Gateway. Download the Xfinity app, then go to the Home tab and select CyberSecure to view security status and threat details.
Is Xfinity CyberSecure included with Xfinity WiFi Shield?
Yes. CyberSecure is included with WiFi Shield for Xfinity Internet customers who lease a compatible Xfinity Gateway. CyberSecure and Family Settings are available on more eligible gateways; the full WiFi Shield experience, including WiFi Motion and Dark Watch, requires newer eligible gateway equipment.
Can I use Xfinity CyberSecure if my gateway is in bridge mode?
No. CyberSecure is not available on gateways in bridge mode.
Can I use Xfinity CyberSecure with a Cisco DPC3939 Gateway?
No. The existing article states that CyberSecure is not available with a Cisco DPC3939 Gateway. Because CyberSecure is the new name for Advanced Security, the same exclusion should remain unless product guidance changes.
What threat types can Xfinity CyberSecure detect or block?
CyberSecure can help block suspicious site visits, suspicious device activity, targeted network attacks, and IP reputation threats. These threats may involve risky websites, malware, unusual device behavior, or high-risk sources trying to connect to devices on your network.
How do I report a website blocked by Xfinity CyberSecure?
If you think CyberSecure blocked a website by mistake, submit a reassessment request at spa.xfinity.com. Xfinity reviews the request and usually shares an update within three business days. If you are not sure whether the website is blocked, use the Xfinity CyberSecure URL Checker. For more, see report a website blocked by Xfinity CyberSecure.
Why did I get an alert for a website I never visited?
Sometimes CyberSecure allows the main website or app to open but blocks risky content on the page, such as a banner ad. You may not see the blocked content while browsing, but you may still get an alert.
How are threats detected with Xfinity CyberSecure?
When a device connects to your home network, your gateway shares activity details with CyberSecure. Xfinity collects some information, such as packet-header data, source addresses, and destination addresses. This traffic flow is monitored to help find security threats and block high-risk actions. To protect privacy, personal information is not collected.
How will I be notified when a threat is detected?
You can get alerts from the Xfinity app for suspicious device activity and targeted network attacks. Open the Xfinity app, select Account, tap Account settings, tap Notification settings, and then tap Push Notifications. Select Network Activity to turn on CyberSecure alerts. Emails and texts are not available.
How many security risks should I expect to see?
The number of security risks can vary by network, device mix, and settings such as port forwarding. It is common to see no security risks for a while and then see multiple risks later.
If I have no security risks, is Xfinity CyberSecure working?
Yes. Security risks depend on your devices and network activity. Even if you have no security alerts, your home network is still being protected by CyberSecure.
Do all security risks need my attention?
No. CyberSecure security risks are grouped into awareness-only threats and action-needed threats. Awareness-only threats let you know about risky activity. Action-needed threats may mean a device is vulnerable and needs additional action.
What should I do if CyberSecure could not be set up?
Make sure your gateway model is eligible, confirm your gateway is online in the Xfinity app, restart your gateway to install the latest software, and then sign back in to the Xfinity app.
Can I turn off Xfinity CyberSecure?
Yes. In the Xfinity app, go to Home, select CyberSecure, select CyberSecure under Settings, and follow the prompts to turn it off. If you turn it off, you lose 24/7 threat monitoring and real-time reporting on your home network.
