Use Xfinity CyberSecure

CyberSecure provides built-in security for every connected device the moment you connect to eligible gateways. CyberSecure sends proactive alerts when online threats and malware are detected, so you’re always in the know for your network and devices.

CyberSecure:

  • Helps prevent you from accidentally accessing risky sites.
  • Helps block suspicious remote access to smart devices from known dangerous sources.
  • Monitors network activity in real time to detect unusual device behavior that could indicate a security risk.

Whenever CyberSecure is turned on and it detects a security risk, it will proactively alert you in the Xfinity app and provide tips on how to resolve it.

Learn how to use CyberSecure, review the CyberSecure dashboard, manage security risks, report a blocked website, and turn protection on or off.

For eligibility and setup details, see Getting started with Xfinity CyberSecure.

Turn on CyberSecure

CyberSecure can be turned on in the Xfinity app.

If you are activating a new eligible Xfinity Gateway in the Xfinity app, you may have the option to turn on CyberSecure during gateway activation.

If you have an activated eligible Xfinity Gateway and CyberSecure is not enabled, you can:

  • Turn it on from Overview.
    • If CyberSecure is not enabled, tap the Overview card prompting you to turn it on.
    • Follow the prompts to turn it on.
  • Turn it on from the Home tab.
    • If CyberSecure is not enabled, look for the CyberSecure prompt in the Home tab.
    • Select Turn on CyberSecure and follow the prompts.
    • If you don’t see the option at the top of the Home tab, scroll down and select CyberSecure.

Note: It can take up to 10 minutes to fully enable CyberSecure.

Security status

Once CyberSecure is turned on, you can find a status of security activity in the Overview section of the Xfinity app.

CyberSecure dashboard

To view the CyberSecure dashboard, tap the Home tab and then CyberSecure. The dashboard shows security risks detected during the past seven days and the devices that were impacted.

Manage security risks

CyberSecure security risks are grouped into two categories: awareness-only threats and action-needed threats. CyberSecure blocks detected risks immediately, but some risks need additional action to help prevent them from happening again.

Awareness-only threats

Awareness-only threats include suspicious site visits. No action is required, but you will be alerted that the activity may be risky. To view details, select the device from the CyberSecure dashboard.

The threat details page lists risks associated with a device, such as when the device was blocked from visiting a dangerous website.

Any time a device is blocked from accessing a site, you can select Allow Access to access the site for up to one hour. Learn more about the threat types.

Action needed

Action-needed threats include targeted network attacks and suspicious device activity. These risks may mean a device is vulnerable because of a virus, malware, or an open network setting.

If a risk requires attention, the CyberSecure dashboard shows an alert indicating how many risks need action. Select the device to open the threat details page and review next steps.

The threat details page lists blocked risks that still need your attention. Select Help Me Fix It for tips on how to resolve the threat. Learn more about threat types.

Report a website blocked by CyberSecure

CyberSecure blocks websites that are determined to be potentially dangerous. These sites may contain malware, spyware, ransomware, or viruses that can infect devices or make them vulnerable to data collection or attacks.

If you think CyberSecure mistakenly blocked a website, submit a request for reassessment at spa.xfinity.com. The request will be reviewed, and an update will typically be provided within three business days.

For more details, see report a website blocked by Xfinity CyberSecure.

Tips to resolve security risks

Depending on the nature of the security risk that requires your attention, the following tips can help you protect your device:

  • Quarantine your device:
    • If a device may be compromised, use the Xfinity app to pause its access or disconnect it from your home network.
    • This can help keep it from affecting other devices on your network.
  • Update your software:
    • Keep device software or firmware current, so you have the latest security updates.
    • Use the update option in your device settings or check with the device manufacturer.
  • Restart your device:
    • After updating software, restart the device.
    • Restarting completes the update and can stop existing communication with malicious sites.
  • Check your port forwards:
  • Disable demilitarized zone (DMZ):
    • Enabling DMZ may resolve a device communication issue, but it is a security risk.
    • If a device needs to be accessible from outside your home network, use port forwarding instead.
    • To disable DMZ:
      • Sign in to the Xfinity app with your Xfinity ID and password.
      • Select WiFi.
      • Select View WiFi equipment.
      • Scroll down to select Advanced settings.
      • Choose DMZ.
      • Select Edit to access the setting.
      • Deselect the checkbox next to Enabled.
      • Select Apply Changes.

Access a blocked device

If CyberSecure detects a known threat targeted for the device with port forwarding, DMZ settings enabled, or UPnP open ports, it will block all traffic coming from its open ports as a measure of protection until the security risk is averted. If you are unable to access a device from outside your home network, you can choose to turn off CyberSecure.

We do not recommend that you turn off CyberSecure, as this removes protections from all of your devices.

Real-time notifications

Receive real-time updates about WiFi settings, network access, and new network activity, such as when a device first joins your network or when a profile is nearing the end of active time.

Learn how to enable notifications.
